Hudson Valley Magazine: Creating a Sanctuary

Our recent interview with Hudson Valley Magazine delves into the intricate balance of modern luxury and historical charm in a 1970s Hudson Valley property. We worked closely with the homeowners to create a space that not only honors the home’s past but also provides a retreat from the fast pace of city life. From spa-like bathrooms to year-round views of the Catskills, every design element was curated to foster wellness and effortless living.

To do this, we created a rubric to use as a filter for how the finished home should feel. We do this with all of our projects, but especially for renovations because:

  • It keeps us honest with each other through the design process as we find new things that we love, but may not be right for the vision.

  • Allow us stay creative with the budget and invest in the right places.

  • The structure allows us to respond to surprises through the renovation and procurement timeframe, which always happen. Staying nimble and honest makes the surprises less world ending when we can prioritize the end feeling of the home.

For this project we wanted to have a light (in color and atmosphere), life proof, slow space to reconnect with nature in.
